Classic and Elegant :)

It's been a very busy summer at Sugarbird! As we start into August and the start of another busy wedding month, we thought we'd share a few more of our past wedding cakes that we loved.

First up was a beautiful white and gold wedding cake with a pair of sentimental gold bells for the wedding couple. This was one of our favourite cakes to make and we love the simple elegance of the finished product :)

Next up is a classic black and white, 4-tiered cake that we made for an old hollywood-themed wedding. Sometimes simpler really is better for certain themes and this is a great example of how minimal decorations can still create a gorgeous wedding cake!

And finally, because summer was such a big baby shower season as well, here's an example of just one of the many baby shower cakes we created :). And not just one baby, but twins! We've also included some adorable little onesie cookies that we created for a baby announcement :). What better way to announce a new baby than wi…

Mmm, cupcakes!!

We decided to experiment with some new, super easy cupcake flavours today! For our customers, we ALWAYS bake everything from scratch, but for home cooking, we LOVE trying out different versions of the classic cake mix cupcake. Today we tried one that we just had to share with everyone. It doesn't get much easier than this!! You wouldn't believe how moist the cream soda makes the cake. You really need to try it to believe it!

Chocolate Cream Soda Cupcakes (or cake!) with Cookies and Cream Chocolate Frosting

1 pkg chocolate fudge cake mix (plus all required ingredients to prepare cake)
1 can cream soda
1 cup sugar
1 cup water
1 can prepared chocolate frosting
5 oreos, finely crushed
24 full oreos

Prepare chocolate cake mix according to directions. However, substitute cream soda for any water that the recipe calls for. Bake cake or cupcakes according to baking times on box. This recipe works best with jumbo cupcakes.

In a saucepan, whisk sugar and water together until sugar is co…

Summer Contest!!

We’re currently gathering testimonials for our upcoming website from anyone who has ordered a cake from us, or tried one of our cakes (or cupcakes, or cakes, or anything :) ).

Anyone who submits a testimonial to us by August 17th will be entered into a draw to win a dozen free cupcakes of your flavour and frosting choice! These would be great for any upcoming family dinners, holiday parties, etc!

You can send your testimonial to info@sugarbirdcakery.com and it can be as long or as short as you want! We’ll only use your first name when we publish the testimonials. We’ll announce the winner on August 18th and will contact that person by e-mail. Thanks so much in advance!!

Baby Cakes, shower cakes and birthday cakes! :)

It was a weekend full of baby cakes at Sugarbird! Which meant we got to have fun with pretty pastels and cute little decorations :)

First up was a Christening cake. The cake of choice was our most popular flavour, red velvet with cream cheese icing. For this cake with went with a 2-tiered damask style stenciled cake and were so happy with the way it turned out! We went with pretty pinks for the colours and finished it off with a message for the baby girl :)

Next up was a baby shower cake! We had lots of fun with this cake making it twinkle and shine like the night sky :). Again we started with our red velvet cake with cream cheese icing. Then we covered it in sky blue fondant and added on some pretty stars and soft fluffy clouds. Next up was a tiny fondant baby, fast asleep under a cozy blue baby quilt. To finish off the cake, we made the stars glitter and sparkle! We loved the finished product and hope the soon-to-be-mommy loved it as well :)

Finally, because we didn't get the bl…
